Medicare, Private Health, Workcover and CTP
Medicare benefits are available to people with chronic conditions and complex care needs who are being managed by a GP or medical practitioner using a Chronic Disease Management Plan, Team Care Arrangements or are enrolled in a Health Care Home.
Medicare will cover $52.95 per session for a maximum of five individual allied health services in a calendar year. These five services can be shared between physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychology and exercise physiology depending on the Chronic Disease Management Plan outlined by the treating GP.
In addition to individual services, patients who have type 2 diabetes may also access group allied health services which are covered separately. Group allied services includes an initial consultation cover of $67.90 and $16.95 for a maximum of 8 group exercise sessions.
Private Health Insurance
Currently there are 30 health insurers who now pay a benefit for services provided by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist.
In order for a patient to receive a rebate from their Private Health Insurer, the patient’s cover must include exercise physiology services and the treatment must aim to prevent, delay or ameliorate a chronic disease or injury. Insurers do not pay a benefit for general fitness programs.
